I have never tasted a more delicious doughnut than the Malasada at Leonard’s Bakery in Honolulu – so soft, puffy and perfect! Malasada, in case you don’t know, is a traditional Portuguese doughnut brought over to Hawaii by Portuguese plantation laborers in the late 19th Century, and Leonard’s Bakery supposedly makes the best Malasadas in the whole Hawaii. After tasting my first Malasada, I am now on a hunt for bakeries in New York/New Jersey area that makes them. So please kindly inform me if you know of one before I go crazy!

A-M-A-Z-I-N-G......

The bakery also sell other bake goods such as cupcakes, muffins, regular doughnuts and buns.

You've gotta hop across to Newark's "Ironbound Section" (near the Kearny line). They have terrific Portuguese bakeries and restaurants, all very authentic. You could probably find a Malasada at least the equal of Leonard's. Great pics, btw (as usual)!

Here's a link to a NY Times story they did on the Ironbound shops a while back: http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=990CE1D81630F935A35753C1A963958260
